Located in the heart of Amsterdam's Museum Square, the Rijksmuseum is not just a museum, but an artistic and cultural experience. The museum, which attracts over two million visitors every year, offers a deep and exciting journey into the Dutch art scene and history, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

Let's talk about the pitcher

Just before we delve into the treasures contained within, it is impossible not to refer to the museum building, which is considered an incredible architectural wonder. The Rijksmuseum, inaugurated in 1885, was designed by the famous Dutch architect Pierre Kuypers, in the Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles, who turned the building into a true work of art. The amazing facade, the complex sculptures and the picturesque arches make visitors realize that they are not entering another standard museum, but a work of art from A to Z.

A collection like no other

And here we come to what's in the jar, and you won't be disappointed here either. The Rijksmuseum is home to art collections and historical artifacts, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The museum's collection contains over a million items - paintings, sculptures, drawings and more, with only some of them being shown to visitors at any given time, which ensures that the experience is constantly refreshing and changing.

The Dutch Golden Age: The pièce de résistance of the museum is its collection from the Dutch Golden Age, a period in the 17th century when the worlds of art, science and commerce flourished in the Netherlands. This era gave our world legendary artists such as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Frans Hals, whose iconic works are proudly displayed in the museum and allow visitors to immerse themselves in scenes from the day-to-day life of that era.

Beyond the paintings: While the paintings take center stage, among the museum's collections you'll find antique furniture, dollhouses and even collections of Asian art. In the museum you will also find a unique collection of objects from the Dutch Navy, which illustrate the deep connection between the Dutch people and the sea.

Interactive exhibitions: Understanding the importance of engaging a modern audience, the Rijksmuseum offers multimedia guides. These guides, which are available in different languages, allow visitors to dive deep into the stories behind the masterpieces. Even families with children will be able to find interest in the museum, with a variety of interactive exhibits that change from time to time and provide interest and fun.

The Rijksmuseum library: If you would consider yourself an art researcher or even a high-level art lover, the research library of the Rijksmuseum is just the place for you. There, you will find one of the most significant art history libraries in the world, with peaceful reading rooms and an unimaginable book collection that allows you to delve deeper into Dutch art and history.

Fill batteries in the Rijksmuseum gardens

And after hours of admiring masterpieces, and believe us, it will take hours, it's time to rest over a good cup of coffee, and what better place to do that than the picturesque museum gardens? The well-kept gardens of the museum are decorated with sculptures, plant beds and a delightful cafe. It is a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle, one that offers a perfect combination of art and nature.
