Gothenburg - 186 kilometers (hour 52 minutes)

Malmö - 327 kilometers (3 hours 3 minutes)

What to do in Grena?

Gränna. The town located near Lake Watern is famous for a candy cane called the Fulkagris. Shops sell the sweets everywhere.

There is of course much more to see: the charming little streets and the view over Lake Vättern make it a real gem.

Visingsö

In the middle of Lake Vättern - the second largest lake in Sweden - you will find the island of Visingsö. Watern's largest island is a very beautiful rural setting with real historical significance. While walking, you will enjoy the surrounding nature and water.

In the 1100s and 1200s Ness Castle was a base of regional power and its ruins await discovery on the south coast.

The ruins of Visingsborg Castle, which welcomes you at the Magarna Pass, are also exciting.

What remains after a devastating fire in the 18th century is the remains of a large Renaissance palace.

Brahehus ruins are recommended to be seen, located 3 km (2 miles) outside of Grena in Jönköping County, Småland. Three kilometers north of Grena is the castle ruin of Brahehus. The castle was built for Count Fr Brahe the Younger in the 17th century. The ruin itself is quite small, but It is at such a point that it offers a great view over Lake Vättern.

After an overnight stay in Grena

Some options for continuing the route to Malmö:

  1. You can drive from Grena half an hour to Jonkoping and after you see the town drive an hour and forty to Gothenburg. The alternative is less recommended, lengthens the road.
  2. Driving from Grena Lorberg Varberg forty two hours

and Marberg directly to Malmö XNUMX hours and a quarter

Verberg is very, very beautiful, but if you travel there with this alternative, you skip Gothenburg.

  1. Or drive from Grena to Gothenburg for two hours and nine minutes and then two and a half hours to Malmö. A recommended alternative.

Another beautiful alternative, but lengthens the journey by several days:

  1. You can extend the road to Gothenburg and stop in Kalmar, Kalmar, Karlskrona or Ystad (maybe two of them). Kalmar has a magnificent medieval castle, and Karlkron is a world heritage site, a 17th century maritime town with beautiful baroque architecture, many interesting buildings and possible trips to the archipelago.

Vadstna Lakmar - Once you reach the Småland region, you will find yourself in the Kingdom of Crystal ("Glasriket"), an area known for traditional glass production. End the day in Kalmer where you can visit the 800-year-old castle.

From Kalmar continue to Lystad and then Halmstad

Enjoy the charm of Ystad, a town with medieval buildings and colorful wooden houses.

In Halmstad, admire Picasso's sculpture of a woman's head or explore beaches and nature reserves.

From Halmstad continue your journey up the west coast of Sweden to Gothenburg.

Since you told us to plan only 3 days, we chose to skip Kalmar, the island of Oland, Ystad and Halmstad and go directly to Gothenburg, but know that Kalmar is worth a visit, the castle there is very, very impressive, but it lengthens the trip and spreads it for a few more days to Malmö.
