The Boston Tea Party

Before the end of the fascinating historical day following the American nation, it is impossible to leave the city of Boston without visiting one of its historical sites, the one that changed the fate of America, the site of the Boston Tea Party. No, it is not about a festive and prestigious event of a delightful tea party, but about an American political protest against the British government.

The Tea Party event occurred after the British government imposed a series of taxes on the American colonies as a way to help pay off debts from the French and Indian War (also known as the Seven Years' War). Among the taxes, heavy taxes were also imposed on tea, and the American colonies protested the imposition of these taxes, and on December 16, 1773, when ships with a cargo of tea docked in the city's harbor, a group of Americans, disguised as Indians to hide their identity, boarded one of the ships and threw away all The expensive tea cargo to the sea.

As a result, the British government closed the port of Boston until it received payments for the tea spilled into the sea, and enacted many more laws that harmed the independence of the Americans and the people of the region. These actions further ignited anti-British sentiment throughout the American colonies, and less than a year later, the first shots of the American Revolutionary War were fired at Lexington and Concord in April 1775.

Today, the Boston Tea Party is considered a symbol of freedom against tyranny and one of the symbols of American independence. The event is commemorated on ships and in the Boston Tea Party Museum, which allows visitors to experience an immersive and in-depth look into that night and its aftermath. Along with visiting the fascinating site, you will receive in-depth instruction in Hebrew about that event, its consequences and how it ultimately contributed to the outbreak of the American War of Independence.
