Lake Garda, Italy

Lake Garda, the largest and most popular of the Italian lakes, lies in northern Italy, halfway between Milan and Venice. You can spend time in port towns along the shores of the narrow northern end of Lake Garda such as Malcesina or Limone, Riva del Garda and towns in the south of Lake Garda such as Sirmione.

Peschiera del Garda is a town close to the amusement parks, it has canals and the color of the water in them and in the nearby lake is turquoise and its beaches attract many tourists in the summer. The parks Gardaland, Movieland and the Canevaworld water park are all near this town.

You can stay at the nearby Gardaland resort. It has three hotels - Gardaland Gardaland Adventure Hotel, and Gardaland Magic Hotel. as well as restaurants and other activities for children.

If you happen to visit during Halloween or in the winter during the Christmas season, Garland on Lake Garda, Italy will have decorations, spectacular entertainment and lots of fun activities. At Christmas, there is also a figure of Santa who distributes cookies to children.

Don't miss the  Leolandia . This large amusement park is located between the cities of Bergamo and Milan. You can reach it in about an hour from the town of Pesqueira del Garda (on the southern side of the lake) and in about two hours from Riva del Garda (on the northern side of the lake). 

After visiting the amusement parks around Lake Garda, many companies around the lake offer cruises on the lake for the day. The best way to see and appreciate the beautiful scenery of Lake Garda is from the water.

Crossing the largest lake in Italy aboard one of the ferries that connect the various towns on the shore of the lake is a great adventure for children and parents alike. Ferry boats operate regularly throughout the day.

It is recommended to see the towns of Limone sul Garda located on the western shore of the lake and sail from there to Malcesine on the eastern side. The view that will be reflected to you during the cruise is of the town's medieval Scaliger Castle, you can also see Monte Baldo mountain, make a stop and if you have purchased tickets in advance, you can climb to the top of the mountain by cable car to a breathtaking view over Lake Garda, if you have not purchased tickets in advance, know that the wait is at least two hours in line.

Monte Baldo is the highest mountain around Lake Garda. It is also known as the Garden of Europe due to the unparalleled number and variety of botanical species that grow there. Among them are 62 types of orchids!

Another exciting ferry trip to take across Lake Garda is from the town of Torre del Benaco to the towns of Maderno and Toscolano. This ferry crossing is at one of the narrower points of the lake and in about half an hour you can jump from the eastern side to the western side.

The ferry crossing from Desenzano del Garda to Sirmione is another journey that offers beautiful views of the lake. Plus, it takes about 20 minutes. If you want, you can take the ferry from Peschiera del Garda to Lazise. It takes about 25 minutes and the ferry continues to the nearby towns of Bardolino and the city of Garda. 

In many towns around the lake you can rent a motorboat or a sailboat for a few hours or a whole day. Another option is to join organized boat tours on Lake Garda, which take tourists around the cliff on which the town of Sirmione is built throughout the day. The tours start from the small harbor next to Scaliger Castle and last about 30 minutes. It is a very exciting experience with amazing panoramic views.

Another recommended boat tour is the one from the town of Salou to Isola del Garda - a beautiful island with a luxurious villa in Venetian neo-Gothic style.

Alternatively, you can join a boat tour of several towns and sights on the shores of Lake Garda. This is an excellent option because in a whole day you will see many iconic points on the lake - from the fortified town of Peschiera del Garda to Punta di San Vigilio which is known as the most romantic corner of Lake Garda. 

If you're looking to cool off on hot summer days, head to Aquardens - the largest thermal water park in Italy - which is only about 15 minutes away by car from the lake town of Lazise. Another option is the thermal park of Villa dei Cedri - it is open all year round.

Parco Cavour - is a water park with many swimming pools and entertainment options. It is only about 12 km from Fesqueira del Garda.

Another recommendation is to visit the amazing waterfall Cascata del Varone. Located a short distance from Riva del Garda. The waterfall is inside a cave and there are two observation platforms - the lower and the upper - which allow you to admire the force of the crash in which the mass of water falls down the rocks.

Another place to go for an easy family outing is the stunning Giardino Sigorta Park. A short drive from Pasqueira del Garda, this is a centuries-old park where you can easily spend the whole day. Over the years Parco Giardino Sigurta' has won the title of the most beautiful garden in Italy, won awards for its amazing tulip displays and in 2015 took second place in the award for the most beautiful European garden. 

 You can spend the night in the La Italia resort area, which is very popular among families for the water park with no less than 5 pools and facilities that are friendly to families and children.

What attractions are there in the town of Sermione on the shores of Lake Garda?

Sirmione offers thermal springs, a 13th century castle and some of the most beautiful beaches on Lake Garda, on the southern shore. The magical town behind the ancient walls of the impressive medieval Scaligeri Castle you can enjoy wandering the maze of tiny streets containing the town's bustling cafes and elegant shops. You should buy a ticket and enter the castle to see the views of the lake from above.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam is a city that is very suitable for traveling with children. In Amsterdam parents ride their bikes with the children, there are many parks to walk with the children, many food markets, restaurants, museums, this makes Amsterdam a super child-friendly destination for a city trip!

You can go to the local markets and visit Vandelpark which is the number one children's playground in Amsterdam. This is where kids learn how to ride their bikes! A trip to the park or a picnic is a must if the weather is nice.

Tushinsky is a theater from 1921 named after the Jewish tailor who financed the building, it has handmade carpets and wall paintings, it was completely restored in April 2002, the theater is a tribute to Abraham Tushinsky, who created the building and was killed in a concentration camp. Movies are still shown in the building today.

Do not miss a visit to Amsterdam Bus, this spacious city park, from 1934, offers a wide variety of wildlife and is an ideal place to get away from the city itself, you will also find a pond for sailing on small boats and a museum whose exhibits are detailed in the flora and fauna area. Cycling trails, as well as an open-air theatre, children's playgrounds and a wonderful organic goat farm. Hop on the museum tram that runs along the park during the summer months and visit the visitor center next to the main entrance. It is one big playground for children with different playgrounds, a pool and even an animal farm.

The museum that should not be missed is of course the home of Anna Frank Anne Frank was a child herself when she had to hide from the Germans in a shelter during World War II.

Thanks to her diary, the story of Anne Frank's hiding from the Nazis is a must-read for children, you will visit the actual building where she, her family and friends hid during the German occupation, you will see rooms that were hidden in the past still contain period memorabilia, a powerful experience. The zoo was built in 1838 and still boasts a 19th century atmosphere. With more than 6,000 animals representing 700 species, the zoo offers a glimpse of wildlife from around the world. On the grounds, you'll also find (at no extra charge) an aquarium, a planetarium, botanical gardens, and two museums dedicated to zoology and geology. Artis is one of the most beautiful zoos in the city. It is a playground for children who can learn about animals from all over the world.

Which park in Amsterdam has a playground for children and where you can have a picnic?
