Day trip from Ljubljana to Lake Bled

Guided day trip from Ljubljana to Lake Bled

Over the years, Slovenia has turned from a hidden gem into a favorite destination for Israeli travelers, who come in droves to conquer the breathtaking nature and historical sites of the magical country. Amongst the many spectacular landscapes of Slovenia, there is a paradise on earth, a beautiful legendary lake called Lake Bled. The iconic destination shimmers with alpine beauty and cultural heritage, and will take you on a breathtaking journey through culture, history and out-of-this-world spectacle. And what's better than discovering all this goodness through a guided tour by a local guide from the area? One who knows every hidden corner and every part of the beautiful nature area?

So let's go on a guided tour together with the guide Ines, who is so passionate about introducing you to the wonders of her homeland.

Platna boat cruise: dive into Slovenian tradition

Your journey begins with pickup from your hotel, from there, a less than an hour's drive will take you to the fairytale land of Bled. When you arrive at the lake, you will board a Planeta boat, a traditional wooden boat that is hand-built by local artists. The unique boat is typical only for this area of Lake Bled, and is characterized by a pleasant wooden roof and operated by a pair of oars. This boat is much more than a means of transportation, but a part of the tradition and heritage of the Slovenian countryside, a part that echoes stories from bygone eras.

Your guide Ines will take you to surf gracefully over the crystalline waters of Lake Bled, and maybe you can even try and take part in the work of the oars. As you get closer to the heart of the lake, you will be exposed to a picturesque island that will make you feel like you are in a beautiful dream.

the island of dreams

When you arrive on the island, you will feel as if you have stepped into a fairy tale, a story where lush trees gently sway, ancient bells ring pleasant melodies, and every corner reveals to you a new side of the Slovenian countryside. Here, you will have free time to walk the island's winding paths, make a wish with the traditional wishing bell, explore the charming Assumption of Maria Church, and most of all soak up the panoramic views of Lake Bled and the surrounding alpine splendor.

A castle in the clouds

Yes, we know, it's hard to say goodbye to the peaceful beauty of the lake, but we assure you that the next destination is just as mesmerizing. You will return to the shores of the lake by boat in the same wooden boat, and from there you will ascend a beautiful hill on the shores of the lake towards Bled Castle, which stands proudly on top of a dramatic rocky cliff. The castle is considered the oldest fortress in Slovenia, built somewhere in the Middle Ages, and besides being a historical monument, it also offers breathtaking views of the area. The magnificent castle roof and its stone walls stand in contrast to the deep blue of the lake and the bright green of the countryside, creating a surreal and mesmerizing sight, one that you will remember for a long time.

The castle complex itself is divided into two main parts: the lower castle and the upper castle, when they are connected by a beautiful courtyard where the castle chapel is located, which is decorated with Gothic murals and an impressive baroque ceiling. From here, you will go out to discover the interior spaces of the castle together with your professional guide, and you will also be provided with audio guides in Hebrew.

In the heart of the castle you will discover a fascinating museum that traces the history of the Lake Bled area, from the first settlers in the area to the present day. Among the exhibits you will find archaeological finds, armor and weapons from the Middle Ages, antique furniture and documents that tell the story of Bled and its inhabitants. The museum provides an insightful journey into the cultural and historical significance of the region, all of course alongside fascinating guidance from the guide Anis.
