About Churchill's War Rooms

In the heart of London, under the busy streets of Westminster, lies a fascinating historical gem - Churchill's War Rooms. The underground complex provides a spectacular testament to Britain's resilience in its darkest hours, offering visitors a fascinating insight into the inner workings of the nation's leadership during World War II.

The Churchill War Rooms, formerly known as the Cabinet War Rooms, were established in 1938 as a government emergency center for aerial bombing during the war. As the conflict intensified and London became a target, the importance of these rooms grew. This is where Prime Minister Winston Churchill and his wartime cabinet met, made critical decisions and guided the nation through the tumultuous wartime.

The historic rooms have been carefully preserved, and these give visitors a real sense of the tension and gravity felt by decision makers in the British Parliament. The heart of the war rooms are the cabinet rooms, where the main decisions were made. In the central cabinet room you can see the large rectangular table surrounded by microphones and old-fashioned chairs, in a space that is hard to believe how much it influenced the British kingdom in those years.

In addition, you can discover Churchill's personal room, where he stayed during the war and through which he broadcast four of his famous speeches to the nation. The most intriguing room in the complex is undoubtedly the map room, which has remained unchanged since the lights were turned off in 1945. In this room you will find maps with colored pins, notebooks and charts that illustrate the global scale of the difficult war.

In addition to the war rooms, there you will find the Churchill Museum, which is dedicated to the life and reign of Winston Churchill. The innovative museum provides a comprehensive overview of Churchill's life, from his early days at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to the post-war years. Interactive displays, personal memorabilia, photographs and letters give visitors an intimate look at the man behind the legend.

Throughout the visit to the complex you will be equipped with an audio guide in Hebrew, which will provide you with fascinating information about Churchill's life along with information about the rooms and spaces you will explore.
